Cycles and Cemeteries Ride
Our Cycles & Cemeteries Ride took place on Saturday Sept. 21.

The Schuylkill River Trail Bike Tour series features bike rides that uniquely combine cycling and history. By offering these rides, the Schuylkill River Heritage Area introduces people to the Schuylkill River Trail and to the visitor sites that can be accessed from the trail. Thus the rides not only promote the trail and encourage outdoor recreation; they also connect people to the region's history and environment.

Pedaling Through Our National Parks Ride: On September 20 & 21, we will host the third ride in this series, taking riders along the trail to three national parks. This will be a two-day ride that will take cyclists to three National Parks where presentations will be offered. The trip will begin at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, travel to the Schuylkill River Heritage Area headquarters in Pottstown, then continue to Valley Forge National Historic Park. It will end at Independence National Historic Park in Philadelphia.

The other rides in our series included:

2013 Cycles and Cemeteries Ride: On Sept. 21, 2013, about 140 participants pedaled from Norristown to East Falls along the Schuylkill River Trail, and took tours of two historic cemeteries where Civil War notables are buried: Montgomery Cemetery in Norristown and Laurel Hill Cemetery in East Falls. Rides totaled 14 and 28 miles.Click here to learn more.

2012 Rails and River Towns Ride: This ride took place on Sept. 22, 2012, taking 110 cyclists along the Schuylkill River Trail from Pottstown to Birdsboro. Prior to the ride start, cyclists heard a brief presentation on the history of the PA Railroad, upon whose right-of-way the trail is partly built. Then, they took off upon one of three rides: an 18-mile round-trip ride from Pottstown to Birdsboro, with a 45-minute guided walking tour of Birdsboro; a 20-mile option with no walking tour; and a 9-mile ride with guided tour of Historic Morlatton Village.
